Progress report on Electrical Metrology at VSL ( 2015 – 2017 )

چکیده
DC voltage and Josephson Within the JRPs “Q-wave” (finished in 2016) and its successor “QuADC” (started in 2016) VSL is working on the practical and theoretical aspects of quantum waveform metrology, including generation of arbitrary Josephson signals, the deviation problem of voltage leads at higher frequencies, a Josephson delta-sigma converter, voltage scaling and uncertainty calculations. After initial work on changing the inductance of the voltage leads, the MHz resonance was treated theoretically as a reflected wave problem [1]. A new solution is proposed and the practical details have been simulated, showing that uncertainties on the order of 10 ppm are within reach for frequencies up to 1 MHz [2]. Measurements were performed at PTB in a small cryostat to reduce the deviation significantly [3]. Further work has been performed on the electronics for a Josephson delta-sigma converter [4].

Analysis of EAW and ReComm Communication Schemes for Hypersonic Flight: Status Report 1
We summarize progress in our analysis of proposed communication schemes for hypersonic vehicles in flight. Investigations into the electron-acoustic wave (EAW) communication scheme have yielded a dispersion analysis indicating that EAW modes can be generated and propagate in the plasma layer [D. V. Rose et al., Voss Sci. Rep. No. VSL-0737, Nov. 2007]. These modes can be coupled to electromagnet...
متن کاملMetrology of Tomography for Engineering
December 16-21 2017 Abstract Tomographic imaging has unique features at “seeing” through the optical opaque medium and “building” up a volumetric view of multiphase dynamics in process pipelines or reactors in a nonintrusive manner. At other aspects, raw tomograms are reconstructed with a specific algorithm, which usually present distributions of a specific physical property of the process medi...
متن کاملAt-wavelength metrology of x-ray optics at Diamond Light Source
Modern, third-generation synchrotron radiation sources provide coherent and extremely bright beams of X-ray radiation. The successful exploitation of such beams depends to a significant extent on imperfections and misalignment of the optics employed on the beamlines. This issue becomes even more critical with the increasing use of active optics, and the desire to achieve diffraction-limited and...

This study is concerned with the safety risk of reduction of visibility on roadways. One way to improve safety under reduced visibility conditions (i.e., reduce the risk of visibility related crashes) is to improve drivers' behavior under such adverse weather conditions. However, there is lack of studies that attempted to better understand drivers' behavior at different traffic and visibility c...
متن کاملThe critical role of metrology in nanotechnology
The nascent nanotechnology revolution promises many benefits to humankind. An exciting and sometimes bewildering variety of new nanofabrication technologies and nanodevices based on electrical, optical, magnetic, mechanical, chemical and biological effects are reported almost daily. It is prudent to ask, however, how many of these breakthroughs will remain laboratory curiosities and how many wi...
